Ah, Google Documents.. So convenient.. But #Google is bad and the current US government is crazy.

What is the closest existing alternative to GDocs which is not owned by an american for-profit?

So far, Libre Office docs could be a replacement but there doesn't seem to be an integrated way to do co-editing online with it?

Conditions:

  • I am not interested in Latex
  • I want to use it to co-edit documents with other people, having tracked changes and comments is necessary
  • I ideally would like to use it with Zotero but it's not essential

@elduvelle

#nextcloud 's office is Google Docs-like: online and with multi-user collaborative editing.

Either contract out existing nextcloud offerings (https://nextcloud.com/providers/ - see the simple signup program) or setup your own (not as daunting as you may think). There are options and tutorials for both.

Yeah, I have started to use NextCloud, and its office software works well enough in its web interface.

Although I haven't tested what happens if multiple people work on the same document at the same time.
