@rolle Interesting that Mastodon didn't use ActivityPub originally. Did they have their own custom protocol then?

Edit: An early readme file says: "Based on ActivityStreams, Webfinger, PubsubHubbub and Salmon."

@rolle I think it's easier than that. Meta needed to claim interoperability so that they could stay clear of any EU DSA issues. With Trump re-elected that's not a concern anymore since they expect the EU to not dare to put any pressure on them.

Thus even the basic interoperability that was there is now no longer further developed.
