Immediately after posting this I checked the NHS website for any advice on dealing with hot water burns and found out that you should NOT use an ice pack.
Remember kids, "cool the burn with cool or lukewarm running water for 20 to 30 minutes – do not use ice, iced water, or any creams or greasy substances like butter"

This year I learned about the daisy wheel on hot water bottles to date them, and that they only have shelf life of about 2 years!
