I certainly hope the EU can put the same sanctions on the US for attacking Venezuela as they did on Russia for attacking Ukraine. This is indefensible.

The scale is a bit different. Genocide, torture, and large scale killing is absent.

But no wonder you, with ruzzian origin, would support dividing EU and USA 🤣 Are you hurt because moscovia cannot do much – except divide & conquer Europe with active measures🖕

moscovia must be denazified

@Gargron one can hope, but give the absolute dependency that the EU still has towards the US, that will not happen. We need to first:
- bring back Digital sovereignty to EU (Linux and FOSS pretty much only option)
- economic sovereignty (ECB are doing good work on this with digital EUR, etc - but they need more support)
- energy sovereignty: we need to urgently transition to renewables
- military sovereignty (unfortunatly still needed. Not sure how long it will take even with the significant increases in spending that we're seeing now)

@Gargron The EU are America's vassals. USA controls the currency you trade in and control cyber. USA just sanctioned ICC judges for making an unfavorable ruling and functionally deleted them from modern life. EU needs independence from USA before they can take serious political action.

@Gargron Europe consumes ~5x more oil than it produces.

We have voted for the growth that has led us here: https://mastodon.social/@urlyman/115717152261231548 So politicians will follow that course.

Every European that wants to be less tied to US hegemony should do everything in their power to reduce their personal resource footprint and to vote at every opportunity for degrowth

@Gargron I'm the last person to approve current actions of the US administration, but deeply disappointed with such a rage-bait take.

It is inhumane to compare suffering of millions of Ukrainians protecting their democratic country, with millions dead or injured, and tens of millions displaced, that endures everyday bombardment of critical infrastructure in the middle of the winter with targeted attack on military objects by US in Venezuela, a country that was already under EU sanction list

Democracy Now!

The Vulture: How Billionaire Rubio Backer Paul Singer Made Billions off Argentina Debt Crisis

Argentina has reached an agreement to pay U.S. hedge funds that have sought for 14 years to profit off the country’s debt. The hedge funds bought up Argentina’s debt for bargain prices after its financial crisis, then demanded full repayment. Former Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner had refused to pay the firms, calling them “vulture funds.” But under new right-wing President Mauricio Macri, Argentina has agreed to pay $4.65 billion to four hedge funds, including Elliott Management, run by billionaire Paul Singer. The deal would see the hedge funds take about 75 percent of what they demanded from Argentina—several times more than what they actually paid for the debt. Singer’s fund itself netted $2.4 billion—10 to 15 times its original investment. We speak to journalist Greg Palast. His recent article is called “Rubio’s Billionaire Wins Ransom from Argentina.”

@Gargron Sanctions do not achieve desired results.

Having said that, the day the EU becomes strong enough to do this is the day they will have achieved real freedom and independence. The current EU leaders won't do this, because they are lapdogs for America. EU may vocally complain about US action, but they still ultimately serve US interests.
