My contributions to the commons, year in review thread:

In 2025 I had 40 mapping days with 138 changesets to OpenStreetMap. That's the fewest contributions I've had since 2018, and 78 fewer days than in 2024.

Still, it's not nothing, you know.

E: Within these changesets there's 3158 contributions according to my profile on OSM, whatever that means… First heatmap is from https://hdyc.neis-one.org/?forteller second from https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/forteller

In 2025 I had 46 contributions on GitHub. Only 3 fewer than in 2024.

I can't code, all of them are feature requests and bug reports. I like to think that I bring important perspectives from a non-coder.

Last time I did this thread I had a number of projects I contributed to too, but I can't see such a number on my profile now, so I don't know where that came from.

Unfortunately GitLab does not add up your statistics for you, so all I can say is look at my heatmap! Can you see when I joined the Summer of GNOME OS challenge? 😜

I hand counted 72 contribution days. How many contributions I don't know, but:

Oct 20 was my most productive day, with 14 contributions. The other three light blue days has exactly 10 each.

I also had 2 – count 'em: two(!) – contributing days to FOSS projects that use GitLab.com. 4 contributions in all, and one of which was just a new comment on a really old issue that I created for GitLab itself. Two more comments on issues for Newsflash, and one single actual new issue, also for Newsflash. But at least that issue was completed! :)

Will 2026 be the year where more FOSS devs moves away from Microsoft and closed, AI-loving GH and moves to FOSS platforms? We'll see.

I also did other things, like encouraging people to install Linux on their elderly families computers that they are tech support for while home for the holidays :)

And just in general tried to be a rational and positive voice online.

In addition I gave my time and energy to the national elections here in Norway, to help the Green Party get above the electoral threshold for the first time, and thus almost triple their representation in parliament (from 3 to 😄 and influence the state budget for the first time.

To this end I also donated 500 000 NOK to the cause, in a manner that triggered 5 M NOK of contributions.

The alternative was the furthest right gov since the war. Probably the most important contribution in my life.
