There is no question in my mind - and you will never, ever change my mind on this - that the single most wrong way to use social media is to follow people whose posting style you don't enjoy.

The idea that the people who post the way you don't enjoy are the wrong ones is the single least credible proposition I have encountered in this young year.

@pluralistic it's ironic that this is the last post in my #notifications list that came through alerts, as i woke up on Jan 1st to 40 unread msgs and i was like WTF?! If by "posting style" you mean writing style, then yeah, that makes sense. If you mean "length" and "frequency", then not really. There are enough tools even on the fediverse to choose how we want to read. I personally don't like reposts but quite like #longform, though now i realise that means no 🔔 for you 😆!

@pluralistic do you only mean posting style or also those who differ in your opinion? If you mean the latter doesn't that pose the problem of creating your own echo chamber, where you only hear people agreeing with you? No reactions that let you gaze into other people's chain of thought and miss discussions that let you challenge your own opinions?

@pluralistic me waking up: “280 unreads? What the hell happened?”

Two minutes of scrolling later: “Oh this is almost all just Cory.”

I filter out the long threads 🤷‍♂️ doesn’t bother me much except for the huge number of unreads I wish would be filtered down, too.

@pluralistic Thanks. Seems like quite a burden.
Going to signup for RSS. But going to observe if i am going to set up a filter. Depends how valuable retweets are and if there are other posts besides threads.
