Hey fedi nerds, if someone replies to me, and I block that person, can someone else still see that reply in context?
Edit: The answer is yes.

I'm not 100% confident here, but I suspect the answer to this gets into the weeds on federation.
If someone views your post after you've blocked the person who replied, and the reply has not yet federated to the viewer's instance, I don't think the blocked reply will be included in the reply backfill operation.
If it was already federated to the viewer's instance, I suspect it still appears.
If the viewer is on the same instance as you, idk what happens. 1/2
@mayintoronto yea, the reply is visible, unless an instance moderator removes it.
blocking in fedi is implemented backwards like this: when you block someone, you don't see them any more whereas they still see you and your public toots.
we really should have a proper way to block, so that the blocked person does not see the blocker. for some reason it's not implemented like that.

there's something to be said about a nuclear block
there's also the lovely option for the replier to say something shitty on the followers-only setting, which their followers and you can see, but your followers can't see. so many ways to be an annoying reply guy here (or worse)
