There is a bit in DS9 where a character has an epiphany and gets a chance to stop being a villain.
She goes for advice to a co-religionist who tells her that all she has to do is give up power and everything will sort itself out.
Because of who she is, she decides to cling to power and this is her downfall.
I see lots of people out there who let their ego get in the way of a good decision like that. The world would be a better place if they didn't.
