@farah @tychotithonus I read that for book club a long time ago and decided to re-read it this past November. Really great, and I'd forgotten most of the latter stuff in it.
I also recently re-watched a large chink of #DS9 and noticed that the Sisko-as-writer in the 1950s is basically Red Shirts, just not taken to the same conclusion. Because presumably Sisko the Commander is the real version and Sisko the writer is fiction. But who knows?!

There is a bit in DS9 where a character has an epiphany and gets a chance to stop being a villain.
She goes for advice to a co-religionist who tells her that all she has to do is give up power and everything will sort itself out.
Because of who she is, she decides to cling to power and this is her downfall.
I see lots of people out there who let their ego get in the way of a good decision like that. The world would be a better place if they didn't.

While I believe Blue Origin's carnival ride is far from a historical landmark, this flight will surely do more for disability rights than the DS9 episode "Melora".

Re-watching DS9 s1e3 Past Prologue. I kind of love watching Sisko and Kira yell at each other, even though I have a hard time with anger in real life. I love that they allowed a Black man to be angry--no anger translator needed for Sisko. I love that he doesn't hesitate to tell people off, either in a subtle way (a quiet "I stand corrected" to the Gul who claims he's not threatening the station) or in a loud way (chewing Kira out about divided loyalties and violence). But I also love that Kira yells right back. She's in a new job with a new boss who has access to a lot more resources than she does, and she doesn't take that into consideration at all, she just states her real opinion. Loudly. #StarTrek #DS9

My wife’s dad is awesome. He knows I love DS9 and StarTrek in general but also knows I can’t see Facebook stuff because I deleted my accounts. So he sends me crooked terrible photos he takes of his computer monitor. And I love that so much.
