China has launched its first million-tonne near-zero-carbon steel line in Zhanjiang. Operated by Baowu Steel, it uses hydrogen instead of coke to reduce iron ore, cutting emissions by 50-80% and preventing over 3.4 million tons of CO₂ annually. This breakthrough helps China meet green industrial goals and avoid future international carbon tariffs.
