I heard these guys just once; and then only briefly.

Aswad were playing at the "1st Chelmsford Punk Rock Festival" in '76 (or '77?); sadly a large group of idiots thought that reggae wasn't appropriate and pelted them with beer cans - so Aswad, having asked for peace and getting none, to Essex's eternal shame, left the stage.

But the band and their music must have had an impact on a young lad transplanted from Yorkshire...

The cover of reggae band Aswad's eponymous first LP. It features a stylised crowned black lion carrying a staff and a red, gold and green striped banner; the background is a gold colour.

There is a label in the lower right corner, indicating that the record is a "Black Story" reprint celebrating Black History Month, October 2023.
