If you're not a big fan of #Reggae, you may not know who Sly and Robbie are, but they have been the definitive reggae rhythm section since the late 70s. Another reason you might not know them is because they, again, are the 'riddim' section and don't sing. A lot of their output is instrumental or backing other people.

I heard these guys just once; and then only briefly.
Aswad were playing at the "1st Chelmsford Punk Rock Festival" in '76 (or '77?); sadly a large group of idiots thought that reggae wasn't appropriate and pelted them with beer cans - so Aswad, having asked for peace and getting none, to Essex's eternal shame, left the stage.
But the band and their music must have had an impact on a young lad transplanted from Yorkshire...
