@dangillmor I disagree. I think Trump’s supporters have a “cultural follower” mindset: they follow whomever the cultural cues around them tell them to follow. When Trump is sufficiently weakened, I think the GOP establishment will throw him under the bus using their media channels. At that time, Trump supporters will hear a constant chorus of “Trump is done” on all media channels, and they will turn away like obedient sheep to focus their attention on the next shiny grievance that the GOP media dangles before their eyes.
Trump’s magic touch has always been his ability to keep his minions and followers one step ahead of the GOP establishment by continually occupying the media cycle. This requires stamina, and Trump is now quite unhealthy and has serious cognitive impairment, so he’s flagging. The GOP establishment, still stinging from years of Trump’s backstabbing, will regain their advantage soon, and I suspect they will set upon him like a pack of hyenas when they get the chance, and rip his followers away.
