What do you wish for Mastodon to come true in 2026?
What do you wish for Mastodon to come true in 2026?
The ability to select a threshold of engagement (number of boosts and/or faves) when turning on notifications for accounts, so I can be notified of their biggest posts without being overwhelmed by notifications if they post a lot
@mellifluousbox Improved UX for the web interface:
* Draft an entire thread before publishing
* Make "direct messages" feel more like on other platforms
* Allow to connect GIF services and add gif embed tool to toot editor.
* Markdown Formatting support in toot editor
1. Reply policies following example of quote policies
2. Reply moderation aka remove from replies
3. Account transfer incl content move
4. Institutions adopting fedi, whether via Mastodon or any other software
5. Mastodon.social moderating scammers and spammers
@mellifluousbox
I would like to have a setting where you can set your daily post limit. This would be good in terms of mental wellbeing and making sure I'm not flooding people's timelines.
@mellifluousbox Meeting one of the German speaking team at the Medientage Mitteldeutschland conference in Leipzig in April 😉
@mellifluousbox All European politicians should have official accounts on instances from the democratic institutions they serve. Could also be from their political parties.
See An Open Letter to All European Politicians and Leaders to Abandon X/Twitter
@everton137 current score = 3.2k signatures on the petition. Does it have any chances of making it to anybody in the "EU politicians" ?
@mellifluousbox su cumpleaños de una década, que no es poco-
@coloco what would you like to see in our celebration? 👀
@mellifluousbox A functioning protocol handler that an app (or web app in a browser) can subscribe to, that way I no longer need to enter my instance address on every single site so that interaction buttons work. This is a pain point that centralised social networks do not have by design.
@mellifluousbox The option of not even displaying posts whose media have no alt text
@mellifluousbox
Realise that it is part of something bigger and adapt
@mellifluousbox Required to be used for any official communication throughout the EU if the communication in question is otherwise published on any social media.
This, of course, is a lobbying effort rather than technological. It should be done under the umbrella of "European security" which is high on the agenda currently.
I realize due to differences in cultures and geographical regions, this is a bit of a tough issue but, I think with effort it is possible....
I want to see a more inclusive safe space for BIPOC --this means Mastodon needs to find and provide educational materials for admins and moderators so they learn about racial inequalities and how they are used in abusive ways, verbally weaponized, on social media platforms.
I am unsure if this is done now, but perhaps due to the aforementioned challenges perhaps speedy lines of communication between moderators/admin of instances of differing countries so they can check with each other about what is or isn't written expressions of racial biases--slurs etc...
@mellifluousbox Fix alt text so that it displays on mouseover once again instead of requiring multiple clicks as it now does.
@mellifluousbox post to list/circles would be very handy.
Show more than 4 pictures from services that allow posts with more picture attachments.
being able to add hashtags to lists
In my own opinion I think all instances should use #mastodonbirdui , but I know that is all personal preference.
Also better onboarding for sure
@mellifluousbox A standards based post migration solution would be nifty!
@box464 @mellifluousbox +1 to this! I’d love to see an implementation of the LOLA work on mastodon
@mellifluousbox I would like to see starter packs rolled out more evenly than quotes were. By which I mean, I hope everyone is eligible to be included in them.
The privacy setting for quotes rolled out before quotes arrived, but those of us on servers that have the quote settings but aren’t on 4.5 yet can’t be quoted.
I hope this is not repeated with Packs—I don’t think it will be a good dynamic to give that kind of exposure only to accounts on bleeding-edge servers.
@mellifluousbox better UI designing DM and other good features
easier onboarding. it still feels linux-nerdy at mastodon and i believe its a reason to not join
ai integration
integrated own-browser based news collection with topics to pick, improved chat like dm‘s, call function, video meet function, separate video & photo feeds, file-sharing a la we-transfer, improved global search, global follow option, payments, maps, traffic, public transportation, booking
more fancy ui design
make it a social hub for daily needs
@mellifluousbox no AI and yes backdated posts
Better management for media content. When scrolling through old images for example, after the first few recent images it takes _ages_ to load older images
@mellifluousbox
- improved ui (tangerine by default?)
- groups
- better/easier ux about private accounts (like private account=all posts private, no choice possible)
- circles (or mutuals only)
- more than 4 images on a post
- support longform post (blog articles) and markdown, events
- support rss? (would be great)
@mellifluousbox I wish more people from academia will migrate to Mastodon, specially from the #STS field
That mastodon remains a social media by all means.
@mellifluousbox Definitely more diversity, more so than simply more people on here.
@mellifluousbox @qbi become a safe space for jews, blacks and all other marginalized people
@mellifluousbox On the technical site, getting the ActivityPub client API would be nice.
Other than that, I would whish for the Mastodon app to display other servers than mastodon.social by default.
@mellifluousbox domain names as aliases to our instance accounts. Make portability easier. Post migrations would also help with this.
@mellifluousbox My wish is something I noticed recently. It's about posts for donations from the Mastodon Account. I noticed it being more than before if I'm right. And I can totally understand that. But I would find it a bit more enjoying to see it a bit less. Just my experience and opinion.
@mellifluousbox changing character limit through server admin! 6 years of discussion! https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/12265
@mellifluousbox Support events like Mobilizon, and reviews (books, music, movies, etc...).
@mellifluousbox Bold, italic, and hyperlink Markdown 👉👈
RE: https://mastodon.social/@mellifluousbox/115725135685682851
Better moderation tools.
For example, if you block an instance's admin who's an arse, then do not show anything from them, no exceptions being made.
Or “your reports” screen, where you can show your past reports and retract them when you have e.g. made them in error.
@mellifluousbox More inroads in addressing the concerns of at-risk groups so that they can feel safer here than on the commercial platforms that are (pretending to be) more accommodating of them. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it does have to be directionally (and marketably) clear that this is a strong goal.
And maybe some tools for those with unmanageably huge followings (celebs, for example) to better enjoy the platform.
@mellifluousbox I hope the people who need to find their people will find Mastodon and find their people.
I hope everyone else leaves us alone (governments, nazis, etc.)
@mellifluousbox `text` _formating_
@mellifluousbox i would like Mastodon, which is the strongest "brand" and organisation in the fediverse, to facilitate moving "regular people" who intuitively know something is wrong with big tech off fb, insta etc. Not everyone will, but there are plenty non tech people who'd want to but don't have time/energy to nerd in on fediverse. To do that we need a replacement for FB groups and the ability to authenticate (Open ID sort of thing) across multiple services (PeerTube, FlohMarkt, Mobilizon).
@mellifluousbox custom visibility/addressing/circles for posts so that you can make a post that’s only visible to certain people. Support for collections, like collections of photos.
@mellifluousbox full `Article` support, so that I do not have to leave Mastodon to read a blog-post :)
@mellifluousbox I want more people on Mastodon. More tech people specifically, like robotics people. I have been watching some micromouse maze solver things and there seem to be no people who do that on mastodon.
Also, there doesn't seem to be many gay men. More of that.
More science people also.
@mellifluousbox Better passkey support and the ability to move all of one’s own posts when migrating between instances.
@mellifluousbox @neil sudo apt upgrade mastodon
It would be interesting to be able to mark an instance as a designated backup location, where you can continuously mirror your account. If the primary instance disappears, you can "promote" the backup instance to become your new primary, and a "move" will be broadcast to the network with a special key to verify it.
@mellifluousbox
Governments and public offices setting up their own servers and using Mastodon as they main micro blogging service.
@mellifluousbox I wish for Mastodon to become a super-simple-low-level-entry-platform for completely normal people like my mom to join the fediverse. (Aka: fix the onboarding process to be inclusive, non-judgemental, friendly, easy-to-use, well organised, transparent and understandable for non-techy people, so everyone finds their way to a server with people and accounts they might connect to)
@mellifluousbox Please no A.I. 😟
@mellifluousbox positioning as the way for EU leaders to communicate, instead of the American censored algorithmic place
@mellifluousbox Better tools for account migration. People lose their old posts when servers are frequently shut down, and it would be great to finally have a set of features for importing past (backdated) posts. It would also mean that Mastodon would be a lot more compliant with the EU data portability regulations, as the current situation is a bit off from what the laws say.
@mellifluousbox Que milhões de brasileiros invadam o fediverso...!
@mellifluousbox I wish institutions like universities and middle/high schools would pick it up for their internal communications and to link to each other.
I like that idea!!!
@neil @mellifluousbox (I often mute replies to a toot after posting it)
@neil @mellifluousbox Only if there is also a way to block that kind of posts. If I am not supposed to interact, I am not interested in reading them.
@neil @mellifluousbox …to „unthread“ malicious replies to a toot you posted.
