@markwyner As much as this might be a nice message, it is also just literally survivorship bias. Some of us of course do come out of the other side alive (e.g. me), but not all of us do and noone does so unscathed.

This reminds me of something a therapist told me decades ago in reply to my complaint, "I can't stand it!"
His reply: "But you are standing it."
