#FensterFreitag
Some arched windows and chandeliers inside the Trader Joe’s in my neighborhood. The building was once home to a respected bank, the South Brooklyn Savings Institution, and was built on the ground where George Washington stood as he watched his troops retreat in the Battle of Brooklyn. There’s history to be found everywhere, even if you’re just making a grocery run.

Photo of a majestic building interior, looking upwards. Tall arched windows sit under a high ornamented ceiling with a variety of different lights: some embedded in the ceiling surface, some hanging down in half-shell casings suspended from cables, and two antique chandeliers, each consisting of a reddish ornamented metal hoop ringed by small lights. On the far wall, under an arched design echoing the windows, is a metal plaque with bas-relief figures that reads “Justice” and “Prudence” with “MCMXXIII” underneath (1923, the year that ground was broken for the building).
