@aurynn My project at the moment is building a https://decmini.tin.cat/ . It's not, of course, a true retrocomputer, but I'm building it into a portable workstation (with battery) that will not use a GUI, or have a mouse; I'm using a true terminal (kmscon) for everything. I'm enjoying it so far; working on software config while the 3D prints continue (I have an Ender, not one of these newfangled hyperspeed things, so it's ~2w of print time). Just an option for you to explore if it sounds at all interesting.
@aurynn What's the definition of a "retro" computer?
@Firesphere SGI gear, maybe Sun boxes. Old PPC Macs. Stuff like that.
@aurynn Hmm, my 2007 MacBooks don't qualify, and I'm not gonna sell my Casio FB-700!
@Firesphere I do actually want a 2007-ish MacBook, to be a replacement for the first new laptop I ever bought myself
@aurynn I have two. I think one boots to Ubuntu, last time I tried, before I screwed it open a bit.
I'll have a look, I can probably piece together a working one again with whatever I have at home (some harddisk swaps, RAM swapping, etc.)
Maybe a swap of the shell, one is covered in stickers and cracked, the other I'm not sure.
I'll have a look over the weekend, see if I can get one going 🙂 You can have it if it boots
