A Japanese drawing, illustrator sadly unknown, depicting the humble circumstances of a balding man in late middle- or early old age. He sits on a metal stool in an undershirt and shorts, drinking coffee and intently reading the newspaper in a tiny one-room flat whose accordion-style door is thrown open to the air, the sunshine and the life of the street. A few lovingly-tended bonsai and potted plants sit on the threshold, alongside a birdcage and a pair of zori sandals. Life is sufficient, tending toward complete.
