Before I get into the legal ins and outs of the case, I need to note the comparatively banal yet horrorific facts. As I was reading, I suddenly realized I felt *exactly* as I did when I was kid and read Diary of Anne Frank and Elie Wiesel’s Night. The exact same sense of of growing horror that the conduct described happened and happened daily as if it was normal. 2/
We must keep paying attention to the particulars of what the Trump regime is doing to people. It is the only way we are going to stay galvanized in the face of large-scale, relentless fascism. It is what makes the utter moral wrongness crystal clear.
Case was brought by people arrested by DHS/CBP/other federal agencies in the District of Columbia after Trump’s declaration of some sort of emergency there. 3/

Even though I really want people to read all the details given by the court, I will summarize. Each of these folks was going about everyday business in DC,e.g. going to work, running a work errand. Each in the midst of immigration related proceedings. Each stopped and physically grabbed by often-unidentified masked people, not given any reason for the stop or the grab, roughly handled and verbally abused. Each hauled to store parking lots, loaded into vans, shipped to ICE facilities.6/
Each arrested person had ties to DC, including for at least two, children living there.
In the ICE facility, each held for over 12 hours, some for closer to 24. Each penned in holding cells so crowded that people could not sit or lie down. If there was room, they would have had to lie on the floor. There was limited drinking water from a single sink tap, and the water reportedly tasted like bleach. No facilities for washing or even brushing teeth, so an overwhelming smell of body odor. 7/
