As someone who grew up close enough to the beltway to know what this means let me break it down for you...

Some quirky policy wonk who went to like UVa or Yale getting an English degree and needing a gap year prior to Law school or even a specific "pre" Law degree has just thrown away a small fortune their family spent on that degree, their entire future in politics and quite possibly their freedom.
