Serious note. I am working on a knowledge transfer project - 15 years of it.
Work journals are worth it. This has saved me so much time.
Decide on a structure - Obsidian. Bear. Markdown. Notepad++, audio recordings. Whatever the medium and pattern, just stick with it.
Sometimes I would get annoyed, and just write curse words and include screenshots and titles like "Zendesk Primrose Hell", but in the end, all of it was useful.
@box464 YES! Moving all my work notes to obsidian was the best thing I have ever done as a freelancer. I have a single journal folder and everything I do in a day gets noted and tagged so that it can then be referred back to whenever I need it. Makes everything easier. It also meant I could cancel a couple of other paid services and save some money (a time tracking app for example).
It's made me passionate not just about Obsidian and PKM techniques for work, but also on other walks of life too.
Also - important - OWN YOUR KNOWLEDGE.
Don't journal in your company's OneNote or a shared wiki. This is separate from SOPs that you build specifically for your organization. And just as valuable or moreso.
You can graciously offer it up as you leave, but you don't have to.
