Catching up on Ruben Gallego’s most-recently publicized misogynist, anti-trans texts and, more importantly, his own characterization of them. https://arizonadailyindependent.com/2025/11/29/senator-gallegos-anti-trans-messages-leaked/

Gallego casts his blatant bigotry and hatred as as being in service to an inclusive, “big tent” vision of the Democratic Party.

A disingenuous and pragmatically unpromising approach. 1/

These guys are passing around the cooked identity politics talking points of conservatism.

Aping the bullshit of billionaires it’s not the way forward it will only make the Democratic Party even more hated.

The people that understand working class issues are Bernie Sanders, and others similar progressives and independents

@heidilifeldman

It ain't a "big tent" if you're outright dismissing entire groups of people.

Torrez is merely advocating for Hispanic men to be added to the white men group.

This is all still arguing for elitism rather than real inclusivity. They're just in the weeds debating who should be allowed to be elite.

@heidilifeldman Yep, I knew we could not trust this guy to be an actual asset in Arizona against this WH regime. But then the so-called Democtric party here in Arizona only has DNC control on elections here, representing old Establishment interests and donors.

But seriously, who can I actually vote for in Arizona who would represent “us” including all LGBTQ people? Kari Lake? Sigh.

@heidilifeldman "“We look like the not fun party. Always telling and correcting people. Not allowing men to [be] men,” said Gallego. “Women used to be hot. We used to be the party of se[x] drugs and rock and roll.”"

Whatever his politics are, he's a boy in a man suit. Should be an incel, but there are terrible women also. I'd hate to be his progeny. How would you even live that down? Just straight denial? "I don't have a dad. I was immaculately conceived."

We should form a support group.

@heidilifeldman I've been told that I have a great ability to pour gasoline onto a smouldering fire.

So I can well recognize when someone buries a valid thought under self-destructive words.

The D-party has been playing its least valuable cards.

We are the party that demands every person be fully empowered with all rights (and privileges and opportunities) that our nation provides and that we, as a nation, ought to protect one another.

But we carry that message in forms that may cause those who generally agree, but who come from more conservative or religious backgrounds, to waver. By this I mean we too often elevate "identity" politics so that it dominates the "us" (as in "we are all in this together") politics.

Yes, every one of us ought to be free to live our own identity without penalty, without barrier (and share it with whoever we choose.)

But we will continue to lose elections if we convey that message in a form that makes some voters perceive "it is all for 'them' and none for 'me'.

@heidilifeldman God it is fucking MADDENING that these pricks think bigotry is the key to 'big tent' politics. Or, actually, they pretend to think that but they really ARE just bigots.

I want to shove this map of Andy Beshear's 2023 re-election in all of these dipshits' faces every time they repeat this nonsense.

He turned fucking COAL COUNTRY blue. Perry County! Floyd County! Knott County! Letcher motherfucking County!

A map of Kentucky by county displaying the 2023 KY gubernatorial election results of Andy Beshear (D) vs Daniel Cameron (R). The map shows large blue shifts in most of the state, including wins for Beshear in the Eastern Kentucky/Appalachian counties of Breathitt, Knott, Magoffin, Floyd, Perry, Letcher, Rowan, Elliot, and Boyd.

A few weeks ago I heard #NewMexico state attorney general Raul Torrez make a similar argument, using virtually the same phrase as Gallego. Torrez was arguing that Democrats, rank and file as well as electeds, must prioritize Hispanic and white working class men rather than “all those other groups.” 2/

Torrez claimed that for the past twenty years (note who that time span designates) Democrats have offered “nothing” to men like his white, Baptist, Oklahoman grandfather or to working class Hispanic men who favor owning and driving large trucks. He argued that for Democrats to win in New Mexico and nationally, they have to stop talking about issues that matter to women and African-Americans. He insisted he was saying these things to make the Democratic Party more inclusive. 3/

@heidilifeldman curious, when and where did Torrez say these things…was it a public event? I'm not totally plugged in, but honestly, this really doesn't align much with his actions in office (he's gone out of his way to make sure all parts of NM comply with our state reproductive choice and gender affirming care laws, he's been against cop over reach, suing the trump admin, going after meta, and when I heard him speak at a large public event, his words were really quite inclusive).

@cjpaloma He was speaking in Santa Fe, to Indivisible Santa Fe. I was quite surprised, because he has done some good things and I expected to be impressed. He portrayed himself as against parole and the only politician in the state who cares about child welfare. He bashed on Democrats in the state legislature. He seemed to have an enormous chip on his shoulder about Santa Fe and the people in the audience.

It was a jarring performance. I was not the only one put off.

When pressed on his view that working class Hispanic and white men don’t care about issues that matter to women and African-Americans, Torrez dismissed the possibility out of hand. When told that he was being divisive, not inclusive, he got angry. 4/

You can’t have a democracy without constitutional pluralistic system.

What’s missing in the Democratic bloodline is old school working class politics beating the shit out of corporate interests.

The US has been experiencing an affordability crisis most acutely since 2008 with no remedy.

Bill Clinton and Obama betrayed the trust and the promises they made. It is no different than the trouble of the Republicans are in now that leveraged that anger.

@heidilifeldman My litmus test these days is respect for human rights. Even if it's a Roganesque male. They can rooster up about their maleness all they want, but do their votes support human rights? Do they believe human rights are non-negotiable? It doesn't matter what economic system they espouse, including Billionaireism, but human rights must be protected. I would ask Torrez and Gallego that.

@heidilifeldman As an Arizona voter I called his office and suggested as a fat man he has no business commenting on the appearance of others. I only hope I live long enough to see his ass primaried and replaced with someone with an interest in serving PEOPLE instead of focusing on his preferred gender, which just coincidentally coincides with his own.

No, Senator Gallego, I will NOT shut up and make you a sandwich.
