I am really fascinated by the intelligence of animals.
In this video, an elephant with "tusk gingivitis" goes to the dentist for treatment, and he clearly understands that the dentist is trying to help.
That is a 6 ton animal, which could crush any human like a twig, calmly accepting a human touching and cleaning a sore wound of his — even lifting up his trunk to make better room for the job.
@randahl Did you know that when a baby elephant is born, it can't control it's trunk? It can wave it in the air, suck on it, or trip and face plant because of it. Their trunk has around 40,000 muscles in it. Just for reference, the entire human body has around 600. An elephant's trunk can snap a tree in half but can be precise enough to pick up a single card off of a deck of cards. (That last bit my son said he heard on a nature video). @randahl I don’t recall any elephant anti-vax stampedes, either.
@randahl I remember listening to a radio show interwieving zoologists about love amongst animals. One of them was studying sperm whales. He told that while he was diving to observe them, a male with a piece of metal in his jaws went to meet him and opened its mouth and patiently waited for him to extract it. The zoologist said that it was probably very painfull for the sperm whale but it stand still.
