Over 150 deaths, over 200 missing, and over 830,000 people affected, Sri Lanka is still not out of the weather and safety emergency. With landslides and floods, these numbers will continue to rise, especially as rescue operations reach some unreachable areas. Over 122,000 are in 919 safety locations.
Following the terror attacks in 2019, pandemic in 2020, economic crisis in 2022, the resilient people of this beautiful country have always fought for survival every step of the way. We ousted a corrupt, incompetent regime, democratically elected against corruption and against weaponized racism. We were on a steady path to recovery, exceeding IMF expectations. This is a gut punch. But, this too, we will survive! 馃嚤馃嚢
Our generous people in unaffected areas are organizing relief donations, and countries like India, USA, Japan, Maldives are extending helping hands. But we will need all the help. 馃檹馃従
