#Listening to Break In The Weather, a single by Jenny Morris. It was the big single from her 1991 album Honeychild, which I remember owning on tape cassette when I was still a child myself;

On paper this is a fairly by-the-numbers pop song. But Jenny's delivery is bang on, the backing band is super funky (great live too), and the music video is oddly compelling.

Sadly, Morris kind of disappeared in the early noughties. Possibly due to the Cambrian explosion of new kiwi bands at the time, soaking up mindshare and broadcast media time.

This accompanied a shift in the centre of kiwi music tastes, away from the safe pop that had dominated major label releases up to that point. Probably caused by a combination of the RockQuest influence on kiwi music, and Supergroove's huge chart success, despite much of their music being much more edgy.
