What I really do not want to see in this thread is sighted people telling #Blind people that their choices are wrong if they use #LLMs to get image descriptions that werenโt provided by sighted people who post the images. My followers know I hate LLMs for all the familiar reasons, but just as I donโt attack people who have no other options for using Amazon, Iโm not going to criticize Blind folks for doing what they need to when the fault lies with inaccessible sight-centric society.

Also, this is not the place for sighted people to tell their sob stories about how they struggle to write #AltText. The #Alt4Me hashtag is right there. It seems to me that to a #Blind user, the reasons why your image isnโt described, or why itโs incorrectly described by an #LLM, doesnโt change the fact that your image is impenetrable to them. (For what itโs worth, I have ADHD and still I manage to add reasonably meaningful AltText to all my images and videos.)
Oh, crikey, the ultimate Reply Guy (who is of course sighted) has entered the building and posted a stunning 13,000 character/2300 word Reply. I have encountered this guy before, and that time, too, it was about AltText. This is a man who never tires of the sound of his own voice. Well, I've blocked him. I highly recommend this response to Captain Reply Guy.
Itโs a very Mastodon thing to post a question or poll explicitly saying, โThis is a question for [some marginalized group], please donโt respond if youโre not a member of this group,โ and then have dozens of people who arenโt members of that group show up in the replies saying, โIโm not a member of this group, but hereโs my opinion.โ Reply Guys do not respect boundaries.
