NEW | UN: Israel’s War Has Pushed Gaza Into a “Human-Made Abyss”
A new UNCTAD report says Israel’s war on Gaza has collapsed the economy by 87%, leaving GDP per capita at just $161, one of the lowest in the world. Reconstruction is expected to cost over $70 billion and take decades.
The report warns that Israel’s destruction has “undermined every pillar of survival” for all 2.3 million residents, driving them into extreme impoverishment.
In the occupied West Bank, Israeli violence, settlement expansion, and movement restrictions have also “decimated the economy,” especially as Israel withholds critical tax revenues.
By the end of 2024, Palestinian GDP fell back to 2010 levels, and GDP per capita to 2003, wiping out 22 years of development.
