Ghosts are sci-fi.

As non-corporeal entities, there is nothing tethering them to the earth. The movement of the planet, from its rotation to its movement through the solar system, the solar system through the galaxy, etc., the Earth should be leaving a giant wake of spirits behind it in space.

If they have something.to be tethered but can still pass through walls, they should get sucked down to the center of the Earth's gravity well immediately.

So, if you see a ghost, it is a master of astrodynamics and should be feared.

@knapjack Has someone written a story where ghosts are 100% real but, as you describe, all get left behind as the Earth moves on? That could be hilarious.

(To be sci-fi, they should actually just continue moving in a straight line, unaffected by gravity or physical interaction, with whatever momentum they had at the moment of death. Only ones that died at almost exactly the same moment and place would be close enough to each other to interact for a while. Perhaps they can alter their own acceleration at basically human scales.)
