This evening’s task to to finally work out how to get my Garmin Fenix to track treadmill runs sensibly (if it can).

And at the opposite end of the #running spectrum, I’m looking for suggestions for good route (including trails) mapping and suggestion sites/apps. I know Strava includes them in the paid subscription but I’m trying to resist and AllTrails seems pretty unpopular with users these days so what else do people use?

@simon Have you tried Garmin’s own app? The web version is somewhat usable to find routes and create your own.

Alternatively, check out Komoot and Trailforks (they were originally bike oriented, but have a lot of running routes). WikiLoc is another good option.

@simon Another technique I use (with mixed results, I must admit) is search YouTube for “$activity $area”, and see if people include GPX files for the routes they record. I’ve found a couple of gems nearby that way.

@simon My Enduro has a calibrate setting to use at the end of a treadmill run. It might be off during the run but then I calibrate it and it stays accurate for a few months. I jut get in the habit of calibrating every few weeks because it only takes a few seconds.

@curtismchale Thanks Curtis. It looks like I can do that with mine so I’ll give it a go.

@simon I know with my Forerunner I’m able to calibrate the distance at the end of a treadmill run, but the metrics (pace, etc.) are still wrong. I’d love to find a better way but I’ve resorted to just calibrating at the end and keeping a mental note of what I care about.

Re: route mapping, I use Strava - but I’ve seen people share routes using plotaroute too. https://www.plotaroute.com/mobile/
But they paywall a lot of functionality, at a price where it may make sense to just use Strava.
