@technomancy this question is clarifying. on reflection i think i'm concerned less about weight (past some reasonable "this is routinely going in a bike bag / daypack" level) and more just missing the kind of thing where a netbook could be balanced on a knee on the bus or jammed in a big cargo pocket.

@brennen @technomancy Not sure you're going to find anything you really love. :/

Mainstream manufacturers have basically abandoned smaller laptops (thinking 10"-12" here, there used to be a lot in this space, especially 12"). I assume phone or phone-adjacent devices have destroyed most of the market for these.

There are several Chinese mini PC options (GPD etc), but they all have Linux support caveats, have basically zero post-sales support, and aren't the most reliable. Tough sell when your mobile computer has no power management and the battery dies in <24h in your bag.

MNT Pocket Reform is probably the closest match, it's lovely, but pretty expensive for the specs.

Would love to know what you end up with, if anything.
