Quick question for the #AcademicFedi: I was recently reminded that I have a #ResearchGate account that I haven't updated in such a long time that I was still supposed to be doing a postdoc in Germany...
So I try to log in, discover that it's using my old German address, switch to the backup address, log in, update the affiliation, and then think "wait, but why am I keeping this"?
So I ask you: is there any good reason why I should not delete this account?

@tfardet outside Masto, it's the only social network I use, and I see regular reads of my papers and get regular requests for papers. And was also already able to get rapidly some papers otherwise hard to get. I'm just careful to not upload any papers directly :-)
@tfardet I just keep it to show a public social network to my employer.
@eco_amandine I'm not even sure mine cares as long as my publications are listed on HAL and I have a public profile there
Note: the fact that they seem to want to sell my data everywhere, show me ads, etc, does not make me want to keep it...
