@christianselig I was still using a Roomba 960 because I thought it was good enough and it still worked. I finally upgraded to a more recent Roborock model and the progress between those years is amazing.
One of the few areas of technology where "it sucks" is actually a good thing.
@christianselig Yes now imagine crossing a robot vacuum cleaner with your rubbish bin. I will take itself out😏
@christianselig I haven't upgraded in years but, damn, did these older models under-deliver on the intelligence.
@christianselig did you consider Matic? Curious of anyone who passes on it.
@ZephyrAuster Watching a few more videos, kinda bummed it doesn't have any automated mop cleaning or auto emptying of the dust bin, I love that
@ZephyrAuster Definitely want to look more into that, admittedly didn't realize they were shipping yet
@christianselig @ZephyrAuster https://maticrobots.com/ these? That looks like a quirky, fun vacuum for a change.
@christianselig picked a new one up yesterday after our 4 year old model died, Ecovacs Ozmo 920 - £400 (I think). It’s a budget Eufy C10 - £179 (specifically didn’t want a mop). After it completed its first clean the wife and I were a little embarrassed by the stellar job the little robot did, compared to what we’ve been doing manually.
4 years of progress - much cheaper, quieter, self emptying and better at the job.
That Dreame you’ve got is supposed to be very good.
@NitP Yeah they're great little vacuums. Mopping is admittedly an area that kind shook me too though, I thought we had a decently clean floor but draining the dirty water from the dock after it was done made me want to throw up
@christianselig It's well worth checking out https://valetudo.cloud/ Dreame vacuums are well-supported.
TL;DR: It runs a FOSS version of the cloudy stuff directly on the robot, so you can block the cloud connection and lose no (local) functionality. I'm running it on a roborock and it's a game-changer. Local integration to #homeassistant? Yes please.
@christianselig surely you didn’t get an iRobot. Got one after 10 years and realized nothing at all changed.
@christianselig Same! Just got a mid range Roborock and it’s amazing how much better it is than my 6 year old Roomba.
LiDAR, man.
@RyanHyde @christianselig Are there any decent robots that dont require an app, nor an internet connection, and are still smarter than just "bouncing around"?
For now I still have a budget one from a discounter supermarket chain just because it doesnt need internet/app. But its too loud, thus I'm thinking about getting a new one..
@christianselig Remember when they used to just randomly bounce around the house til the battery got low? They're so much more advanced now
@christianselig did they figure out how to do stairs yet?
@loganer There's a prototype one that does now yeah haha. But I'm in an apartment so no stairs to contend with!
@christianselig Spill it. What is it? YouTube review?
@iBaz66 I picked up this one on a Black Friday deal, loving it just wish it was a bit shorter so it would fit under my couch easier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51YlbWSDGDs
@christianselig 3D print some taller legs for the couch? 🤷🏻♂️😆
@iBaz66 @christianselig that’s what I did. Spacers really, so that it still had nice feet.
