China's export controls on yttrium have triggered a supply crisis in the West, halting U.S. shipments and causing European prices to surge over 4,000%. There are now severe shortages of the element, which is critical for manufacturing jet engines, semiconductors, and energy turbines. @yogthos all the mainstream news I've seen on this is "the US is trying *really hard* now to 'shake' its dependency on Chinese rare earths" as if it's just a thing we could always do but never bothered to try. Interested to see how that shakes out lol
