Because we are only target users not their source of money.

They may believe at some point they could monetise their audience to one of the big IA giants. Which in turn considers to buy a web browser company to bypass the paywall.

I would not be surprised that if chromium is too much Google oriented, an AI company would buy Mozilla.

Open standard was the only way for #Netscape to have a market chance against #Microsoft internet explorer.

Google needed also to not be framed out by microsoft. So they supported Mozilla.
