He doesn't have the legal power to impose tarrifs in any case!
@russellt correct — he does not. This is a power which resides in Congress. The only reason he is getting away with imposing tariffs is, he falsely claims there is an emergency similar to a war. This is currently being tested in The Suppreme Court, and I expect him to lose.
He should get the Nobel Prize for economics for inventing free trade!

@randahl and yet I still can't buy something from a European company without at least a 18% extra tax placed on the item.
And he's the crux in my mind. The colonists back in 18th century were paying a total of 7% tax (a half percent lower than the current state tax I pay where I live) and look at what they did to the government.
I'm not against taxation, any government has to, but I'm definitely paying way more than the colonist did and they ousted a King.

Tariffs are taxes on foreign (imported) goods - paid by national consumers.
