"... the reality is stark. According to the 2024 Knight Frank Wealth Report, there are about 225,000 individuals in the U.S. with net assets of $30 million or more, just 0.07% of the population. Far from expanding opportunity, this excessive wealth locks millions out of the chance to innovate and build, weakening growth for all." https://time.com/7325632/universal-basic-income-millionaire/

I'm a Millionaire. No One Needs More than $30 Million.

Setting a limit on wealth preserves opportunity for everyone, argues millionaire Scott Ellis.

@codinghorror even more so: this accelerating gap of wealth (and opportunity),
is accelerating the demise of the system; it is literally killing the gilden goose, and will render all that wealth, utterly useless. we can see it happening already; in their increasingly rapacious greed, they're not only causing more and more suffering for the rest of us, they're cutting their own throats. and they think buying islands and private armies will protect them.

@mv_rendino I say let them all go to Mars, and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

@codinghorror The rich keep saying: ”We can’t afford the poor”, but as Richard J Murphy turned it over; ”We’ve been affording the rich for way too long.”

The reality is, vast human potential is being wasted.

@gimulnautti "It’s about us, as Americans, working together to invest in our future – possibly the greatest unlocking of human potential in our entire history. I do not say these things lightly. I’ve seen it work. I’ve looked at all the existing study data." https://blog.codinghorror.com/the-road-not-taken-is-guaranteed-minimum-income/

Coding Horror

The Road Not Taken is Guaranteed Minimum Income

The dream is incomplete until we share it with our fellow Americans.

@codinghorror @gimulnautti if you believe Joan Williams, UBI is the optimal policy to alienate the working class because working class people want 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 -- predistribution not redistribution

(there's problems w/ that: if we had a civilization that didn't drive people to do things they don't want to do we probably wouldn't have an electrical grid, synthetic fertializers, computers, etc...)

@codinghorror I think the destabilizing the democracy part already starts when people realize that a wealthy person gets a lower prison sentence and barely needs to pay taxes.

@codinghorror @blogdiva I suspect at least 10,000 of those people live in the #sfba

@codinghorror my conclusion is that greed has been the problem the whole time. I am just afraid of what will have to happen to redistribute all of that hoarded wealth.

@bruisedthumb no, it's not greed, the systems have perverse incentives, we must change the systems, I believe in 99.9% of people
