This guy runs the Windows unit at Microsoft, and he's telling you that the company intends to infiltrate "AI" into every aspect of the operating system.

If you use Windows, this is an injection of a living, self-replicating virus into your digital existence.

Yes I use Linux.

Twitter post: "Today we’re taking the next step in making powerful AI easy and useful on Windows 11. With Copilot and new agentic experiences at the center, every Windows 11 PC becomes an AI PC that empowers you to connect, create, and work in more natural ways. Voice is becoming the next..."

I think there could be an upside to this: it makes AI on PC's noticeable.
No longer an abstract AI powered pc, but a PC where the new Clippy is interfering with your daily activities.

@dangillmor

If you buy a device with Windows on it then you're really only renting it off Microsoft.

I'm waiting for the day when someone gets sacked because the AI-enabled kettle that Windoze detected and installed when it first entered the house informs the owner's employer when they exceed their recommended daily tea intake.

@dangillmor I work in healthcare and this is going to make everything with a Windows OS HIPAA noncompliant. I guarantee that Microsoft will be using this to steal and collect every last byte of data. I will be speaking with folks in my state’s government about a class action lawsuit.

I urge all non Americans to demand that your governments drop American tech companies as vendors.

@dangillmor I just want that, either, people find a way to run the software I use at work on Windows, or people start developing good Linux alternatives to them.

@dangillmor Not living, not self-replicating. Putting LLMs forcibly into users' devices is bad, but let's not mince words and create misinformation.

Yes, I too use Linux.

@dangillmor - Windows was bad before AI, but I'm glad there's something that's finally getting people to actually see it as a choice.

Even the Golgafrincham marketing people from "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy" stopped to consider if people actually _wanted_ fire that can be fitted nasally.

@dangillmor This is why the VLC 2.9 Foundation recommends Fedora and Kali Linux. For THOSE WHO KNOW, Windows is not an option for the Unclaimed Future. We need to free our technology from corporate control.

@dangillmor The two most common requests I get from clients as of about August this year:

  1. Divert a perfectly functional PC from becoming e-waste by replacing Windows 10 with Linux.
  2. Uninstall, disable, or block #CoPilot, #Recall, and all other #AI misfeatures in Windows 11 and on common websites.

People literally pay to not have Microsoft's slopware. It's not merely worthless; it's of negative value.

@dangillmor there is a reason, that most humans prefer keyboards over voice interaction. It is not, because it does not work. Cortana worked reasonably well.
