My flight from LAX to PHL (en route to Web Summit in Lisbon) was told to join a holding pattern over PHL because of air traffic controller shortages, but we didn't have fuel, so we diverted to BWI and were put in a holding pattern there, but we had even less fuel, so now they're trying to land us at Dulles. Here's hoping. Thanks, Trump.

@pluralistic Even before Trump, ATC was working 6 days a week with mandatory overtime. You were flying through PHL TRACON… they also handle Newark traffic via a single fiber link which has been so flakey numerous controllers have taken recovery time. A brain dead decision made to ostensibly address controller shortages instead of paying more and hiring more.
The union for ATC is also total shit.
It’s been an issue long before Trump, but he’s definitely piling more straws on that camel’s back.

Good luck. I used to fly a lot in 1970s-1990s, and in the earlier era I remember all too well flights that had to circle… but then scheduling got much better.
