"for the Mac" 馃ぃ ... fuck the Mac. iPhone forever, baby. The iPhone and iOS are easily, easily greater than every single product Apple released up to that point https://blog.codinghorror.com/serving-at-the-pleasure-of-the-king/

@codinghorror I honestly still prefer the imperfect Android, with their open base, the fact you can swap out EVERY component (even the homescreen, launcher, etc), and in general more free approach to things, at least until they announced their mental requirement to sign sideloaded apps (which is even controversial within google).

Personally kinda hoping PostmarketOS gets better, because I honestly care far less about 'user experience' than about whether I actually get to control that experience

@anthropy I just love Apple's incredibly elite hardware, and I have to say I empathize with their willingness to throw all the software developers under the bus, if it results in a better user experience -- and it almost always does :/

@codinghorror I understand the 'rule with an iron fist' kind of approach, you definitely get more consistency and avoid developers reinventing the wheel a thousand times..

..but I personally don't actually enjoy apple's views on UX, it feels 'too dumb'; e.g I don't know if you can actually remove icons from your homescreen yet, but that was a hilarious thing i hated, and just in general the way they get in the way of me customizing things feels obtuse rather than helpful, even if I get why

I mean, maybe, but we need some new physics breakthroughs to make this viable at a non-insane price point, whereas the Apple Watch was a simple, standard "computers get smaller" progression.. instead we have.. "v2 is notably heavier and offers 30 minutes more battery life!" .. uh.. ok? https://www.gq.com/story/apple-vision-pro-m5-review

@codinghorror Also, being completely immersed in your own reality, tuning out the world, is about as dystopian as it gets.

@codinghorror The frustrating thing is that iOS is 80% there for #PWA becoming a valid alternative to classic apps. But the missing 20% make them impossible.

@bitbonk which 20%? Games? Can you please be more specific about what is missing, with examples?

@codinghorror a smaller example: PWAs on iOS can have push notifications but they can鈥檛 have the little red badge next to the app icon

@codinghorror discoverability and ease of installation is the biggest hurdle, I guess

@codinghorror no one knows how to install my PWA on iOS and no one will find my PWA
