#OffTopic

I am grateful to live in a peaceful city, but today was not peaceful in Vejle.

I was Christmas shopping downtown, when a person suddenly went on a violent rampage through the street, kicking down street signs, damaging cars, an clearly being a danger to innocent bystanders.

Luckily the police were there within minutes, and I think they will catch him, because there was a security camera right above an area where he kicked a large merchandise rack down onto a brand new car.

What surprised me the most was my own reaction.

Apparently the situation shocked me enough that I was unable to describe the perpetrator when the police arrived — my recollection was completely blank. I could not even recall what clothes he wore.

That annoys me deeply, because I wanted this man to be stopped before he hurt anyone.

So my advice to everyone is: If you see something dangerous, film it. You never know what you will be able to remember, but video is forever.

@randahl I've also got the question, "What was he wearing" and couldn't remember less than 5 minutes after seeing the suspect. It surprised me too. Strange how the mind works. Or maybe I've never been interested in clothes.

@randahl I'm so sorry that you had to deal with something like that. Be sure to take a breather - adrenalin can have some really weird effects afterwards (tired, dizzy, etc.)

It is very common to not be able to remember details afterwards - and the longer ago it happened the less reliable your memory will be. There have been extensive studies into this exactly.

Also speaking from personal experience, if possible and safe to do: record it. But your and others safety must always come >first<

@randahl I'm sorry that happened to you. Adrenaline is not kind to memory formation (unless it's a trauma memory, and then oh boy you never get to forget it!).

@randahl Not so much off topic. The present day world, unfortunately.

Glad you're okay.
I did really good hostile environment course years ago. It was worthwhile.

@RaySF I did not know that existed. Are these courses open to everyone or was that part of your job?

@randahl
Sorry for late reply. I'm in the pub with my pals. There are many fantasists and fakers in the self defence world. So it is tough to find good training. A lot of martial arts training is nonsense.

You might find Danish military who are doing training for private security, such as international shipping.
Ex marines etc.
Feel free to contact me on my own experiences.
I won't say very much on a public site.
