Here is Mark Zuckerberg canceling all of his previously touted philanthropy that benefited people in need and instead spending his tax-deductible “gifts” on vanity projects in AI.
@gleick It's welfare in advance for the quadrillions of mechanical souls who are yet to be born...
@gleick I think that this happened just before, at the same event. Billy Eilish really showed up how hollow and careless these people are.

[edit: forgot to add the link!]
@gleick Shortie simply couldn't stand being called out by Billie Eilish for being billionaire... and doubled down.
@gleick
This is the man who idolised cruelty and built his empire on a method for judging the looks of women via photos stolen of them. No surprise if he turnsout to be a shit. He always was.
My only comment about anything Mark Zuckerberg does is the same as the way he described his Harvard College classmates, who were naive enough to use his early program. "Fuck 'em."
@gleick every “philanthropic”foundation founded by billionaires is just a tax haven.
@gleick NYT isn't immune to this. It had a bullshit ad from #Chevron in the middle of the article when I loaded it ("Energy for the Age of #Ai: Reliable power, around the clock").
#Zuckerberg is basically self-dealing by calling his funding of AI a type of philanthropy since he's just getting a tax write-off for indirectly investing in his own companies. One can arguably call LLM-type AI misanthropy.
Science and AI isn’t really AND; not exactly XOR either, but close.
@gleick To borrow words from @pluralistic “and given it more consideration than it is due already. Now, [Zuckerberg] fuck off. Then keep fucking off. Fuck off until you come up to a gate with a sign saying ‘You Can’t Fuck Off Past Here.’ Climb over the gate, dream the impossible dream, and keep fucking off forever.“
@macronaut @gleick I got that from Michael Marshall Smith
@gleick This feels like a pivot to take advantage of the federal government firing, directly and indirectly, thousands of quality scientists. Buy cheap.
Though it doesn't explain why they're curtaining the other philanthropic efforts in education and housing.
