@alice For example, your Mastodon client could hide the abuse. I spent months working on exactly this, which is why #Pachli supports hiding notifications and DMs from accounts you don't follow (hide with a warning, or hide completely, more details in https://pachli.app/pachli/2025/02/28/2.10.0-release.html#anti-harassment-controls-for-conversations-private-mentions). I suspect this would have stopped most of the abuse you experienced cold.

Just yesterday I was discussing extending this to support additional signals. For example, blocking interactions with accounts on servers that allow open registration, if that's what you -- as the user -- want.
