🤝75 years of the European Convention on Human Rights

A landmark treaty that reshaped Europe after the second World War, protecting millions of Europeans and supporting our shared values of human rights, democracy and rule of law.

Because human rights aren’t optional. They’re universal.

A list of fundamental human rights on a light, textured background. The text reads: "Right to life. Prohibition of torture. Prohibition of slavery and forced labour. Right to liberty and security. Right to a fair trial. No punishment without law. Right to respect for private and family life. Freedom of thought, conscience and religion. Freedom of expression. Freedom of assembly and association. Right to marry. Right to an effective remedy. Prohibition of discrimination. Prohibition of abuse of rights." Below, in smaller blue text: "EUROPEAN CONVENTION ON HUMAN RIGHTS 75 YEARS (1950 - 2025)" next to a small image of the EU flag.

And yet multiple MEPs and their parties are trying to put loopholes into these basic human rights and turn the Charter into a symbolic swiss cheese. Since ~2010 at that. And none of you think about prohibiting such proposals and make them illegal and punishable by law. No. Instead. Year after year MEPs arms deep in lobbyist rectums do their bidding and propose the same shit under new cloak. That is not what Europeans pay your wages for.

@EUCommission Its so easy to call you out on this. Your allies Israel and UAE are both committing genocide. You are drowning refugees in the Mediterranean. Many commodities imported come from slave labor. There is also slave labor in some EU countries for undocumented immigrants. The anti-terrorism laws in most of your members mean arbitrary arrests and unfair trial. You are constantly trying to legalize surveillance. 500 characters are not enough to properly call you out and source everything.

75 Years of Defending Human Dignity

We often take our freedoms for granted, forgetting they were hard-won and protected by treaties like the European Convention on Human Rights.

This milestone reminds us that our rights—to life, liberty, fairness, and equality—are universal, not optional. We share a duty to cherish and defend these values, ensuring that, for the next 75 years and beyond, dignity and justice remain at the heart of our societies.

yeah, empty words, nobody is fooled after your complicity in a genocide and the silencing of criticism.
You showed the world you do not care about human rights, even of your own citizens, even of your own MPs when they are captured illegally on the Mediterranean Sea and jailed without access to a lawyer or to fresh water.

@EUCommission Probably a good idea not to conflate the Council of Europe and the ECHR with the EU - the latter needs to do a good deal more to uphold the principles enshrined in the ECHR.

@EUCommission

»Because human rights aren’t optional. They’re universal.«

If you believe in it, then it would be time to act accordingly.

We wouldn't have a militarized border, no pushbacks of refugees, no dying of refugees in the Mediterranean Sea, no camps for refugees with miserable conditions, no torture camps as part of the border regime, no human rights abuse in European countries and no tolerance for genocide, apartheid and occupation.

@EUCommission at the time this treaty was signed, European countries were colonizing almost all of Africa and the Caribbean, and vast areas elsewhere in the world. They were not practicing what they were preaching in Europe at all.

@EUCommission our supermarkets and pharmacies are full - and I mean entire aisles in many cases - of goods linked to an apartheid state. The coloniser and genocider in question recently had the EU Commissioner say that the EU “stands shoulder to shoulder with them”.
