Mark Wyner Won’t Comply :vm:
@markwyner@mas.to  ·  activity timestamp yesterday

Alan Freed is a radio DJ who is responsible for giving rock and roll a big push in the 50s. He did these tours with bands who were making music in the then-emerging style. He even helped to popularize the term “rock and roll.”

He also worked hard to create a convergence of teenage music fans across the racial divide.

“Alan Feed the waves as much as Lincoln freed the slaves” is a lyric from a Public Enemy song.

@depone yeah. Apparently you’re not alone. 😂

There’s an element of white privileged here. Like an Elvis kind of thing. But he did work hard to break down barriers. And, well, rock and roll (and all of its incarnations) is rad.

@markwyner I did know who Freed was, it was before my era but close enough for DJs to mention him with reverence,especially John Peel and Tommy Vance. I voted accordingly,

@aadeacon he was also before my time, but his contribution to rock and roll can’t be understated.
