@hipsterelectron #Google sucks. Period. Earlier this year I migrated to another, more secure and private, mail provider. That was the biggest step in de-Googling. Still have a few things left, like getting content off Google Drive and finding another solution for Google Voice. But email was the big thing.

@hipsterelectron That's terrible. In the beginning, #Gmail won plenty of people over with, at the time, great spam filtering and 2GB storage. It was a much different time in 2005, however.
Fast forward 20 years and Google's mail service isnt innovative. It doesn't stand out and isn't competitive. Now fully entrenched in the #NSA #PRISM program and the company completely in bed with the #usgovernment everyone has every reason to run away.
I pay for my new provider but it's a HELLUVA lot cheaper than trading #privacy for "free" email.
@hipsterelectron funnily enough i have another explanation.
They are famously shit at customer service in particular to salvage an account.
Going with the recovery phone number line is their way to shift responsibilities.
"You are locked out of your account? Not our job to help you. We tried already with the recovery phone number probing. That one is on you"
