This is madness — the effects of Trump's policies are now being revealed. New numbers are released across states, that reveal how much healthcare insurance premiums will go up next year:

A family of four making $130,000 in Maine will face an increase of $16,100 annually.

In Kentucky, a 60-year-old couple making $85,000 per year combined will have to pay $23,700 more.

All so Trump's billionaire sponsors can get tax breaks.

— This must be the biggest increase in inequality in US history.

@randahl Note that this is not the total cost of health insurance, it’s just the *increase*. These numbers are nuts!

@randahl biggest increase in inequality. Not a chance. First slaves, and genocide of the first peoples would beat it flat

77 million voted for trump and 80 million did not vote at all. my estimate is, that most knew what they voted for or watched idly when this corrupt orange goes into power.

some americans need to feel some political pain for this.

disclaimer: thank you for kamala and democartic party voters.

@randahl A friend of mine in Florida was paying $430/month for health insurance, and now she's expecting the price to rise over $1300/month and is likely going to be uninsured.

"Have they no refuge or resource?" cried Scrooge. "Are there no Prisons?" said the Spirit, turning on him for the last time with his own words. "Are there no workhouses?" The bell struck Twelve.

It will be interesting to see if Trump does the same as he did with beef prices and blame the actual providers rather than the middle men.

@randahl the gop has literally called for mass murdering the homeless, how can you not see what the goal is? Carling for the indigents is getting expensive as it goes on, they want a Final Solution.

@randahl

In three senses:

1. Failing to fund the NHS adequately after more than a decade of Tory cuts and Covid

2. Increasing the role of the private sector (with whom Mr Streeting is notably close), and perpetuating the idea that the NHS needs "modernisation" rather than resources

3. More generally by failing to confront Farage and offering us Reform-lite instead.

This is absolutely horrific. This is just the insurance costs as well - you still need approval for health issues! What a nightmare.

@feather1952 if Democrats were ice cold like Trump, they would just let this pass to ensure Trump loses the midterms.

Then we would see interviews with MAGA voters who had lost their homes over this, and hear if they were still Trump fans.

But naturally, Democrats will try to stop this — hence the shutdown — and I hope they succeed.

@randahl @feather1952 that's because a lot of their voters will suffer too. I know a lot of people in red states who didn't vote for trump and get insurance thru the ACA who are not going to be able to afford insurance. But this has been a problem for people who don't qualify for subsidies since the beginning of the ACA. In 2018 I needed an ACA plan and about had a heart attack when I saw the price for me and my husband: $2600/month for the cheapest plan that paid for absolutely nothing until hitting a $14,000 deductible. A plan that had decent copays was $3600/month with $14,000 copays. I was over the limit to receive a subsidy even though I'm definitely not rich. I had to close my small business and go back to a corporate job just for health insurance. Everyone is now finding out the real cost of these plans if there are no subsidies. We need a total overhaul of our healthcare system.
