Looks like there's been some corporate shitfuckery going on in the community for the Ruby programming language used by Mastodon (Ruby-on-Rails) and a few other fediverse software projects. Leading to a new Ruby Gem repository run as a democratic co-op;
At least that's what I presume based on the .coop, which has careful caretakers checking applications to use it.
@strypey I've been following this. It is a debacle, but raises some interesting points, and there are other cases around too.
DHH is a nasty casually racist person. Should we be willing to use his software? Should we ban him from our forums?
@strypey There is a project ( I forget which and it does not matter) where the maintainer said stupid shit using what should have been their inside voice, got challenged, stopped, instituted ane enforced a code of conduct.
Another (I remember and won't say) where the maintainer doubled down and "fuck you all"
In the first case, is it a problem? In the second it is, IMO, no debate
