🚨🇬🇧 Surveillance in the UK is rising as it plans to roll out mandatory #digitalIDs for all its citizens.

Why is this deeply concerning?

❌ Increases state control

❌ Infringes on your privacy

❌ First step to creating a surveillance state

The state has NO right to know about: your finances, your movements, your shopping habits, your online activity, your health, your connections, your religion.

@Tutanota

The UK's proposed mandatory digital ID is also a step toward banning anonymous cash and forcing all transactions into the digital realm, where it and private vendors can yank your access on a whim, at a moment's notice.

@Tutanota I agree, and yet many, if not most, people allow corporations to collect all of that information, and more. The users sometimes freely give it too. Google, Apple, Amazon, Meta, X/Twitter/Bluesky, every supermarket club card, etc. And many of these companies and their data broker buddies sell this data, so the government doesn’t need to collect it themselves. They can quietly drink from the firehouse of data already available.

@Tutanota It will be mandatory to have it for work or to get benefits and it isn't compatible with non-Google Android variants. UK in US Tech's pockets once again.

@Tutanota I am on business in China at the moment and this is what they have. Scanning their id everywhere and everything we do is recorded. I was literally telling them yesterday that this is coming in Europe.
