Okay the #AI #Scam REALLY has gone WAY TOO far. Now Seagate is marketing a line of HDDs as meant for AI! This is totally bonkers. It’s a bloody lie. How can platters and a disk head etc. be AI enhanced or ready anyway? It’s not software. Never mind that almost all if not all cases of AI in this craze are #LLM at best. It’s tech’s biggest #hoax in decades if not ever. Almost every company thinks if they market something as AI it is somehow better and too many people are buying into it. All lies.

Seagate HDD line that is supposedly ‘AI’ ready.

@urlyman I'm not even sure how to parse this one. It might be I've been awake too long (true). But maybe it's something else. If you care to clarify I'd be curious but either way is fine. If you mean it's frustrating how far the scam has gone I obviously agree but if you mean something else I don't know.

@xexyl I’m with you re the AI scam. It is certainly a military/policing tool. A boon to surveillance for anyone with a will to power who doesn’t care much at all about false positives

@urlyman by scam I mean a multitude of things including it is LLM really and not AI. It is indeterministic; it is not learning or thinking anything at all. I saw from google's so-called 'generative' AI the exact opposite answer to the same question within hours. It's a great way for companies to increase the price for something that isn't as good as it claims to be. Whether they're using it for policing or military I've not thought of but since everyone is doing it ...
