I just want to give shouts out to LeCarre.

I mean, Graham Greene first began to explore this territory, but it was LeCarre who colonized it.

I'm watching "The Americans", and there's "Homeland", and "The Spy", and we're all breathlessly awaiting the next season of "Slow Horses" -- I've read all the books so far -- and all of this comes down to LeCarre's insistence that it wasn't good vs evil, or tech, or tradecraft, or geopolitics, that spy stories were ever and always about relationships.

@GeePawHill I had never considered myself a fan of the genre before I had the idea to set my ghost(ish) story in the middle of an espionage plot (1980s Czechoslovakia), and started to consume media as research. It's definitely not what my original kind of idea of what spy stories were like. Plus I love LeCarre's writing style.

@GeePawHill Man I love a cerebral, emotional spy series! (And also Slow Horses.)

A couple more you might like: "The Night Manager" (Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie, Amazon 2016) and "The Old Man" (Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, Hulu 2022)

@GeePawHill i read few of this books and watched few of the movies that came out of them, but in The mole or The constant gardener, I feel like a moral point of view on his characters or their (sometimes hidden) opponents.
